If you’ve been watching the ACC men’s basketball tournament, you’ve probably been less-than-impressed with Raycom’s and Lincoln Financial Sports’ coverage. From the directing, to the technical stuff and the announcers, it’s been nearly unbearable to watch, but, if you live in the ACC footprint, you don’t have a choice.
Last night, during the Virginia Tech – Wake Forest game, Raycom missed the start of the second half [click here to watch]. Then, late in the game, the picture went fuzzy [click here to watch], then froze and all we could hear was static. This wasn’t a local affiliate issue, it was a direct-from-the-source problem. When a company like Raycom shells out the kind of money it does for the ACC tournament broadcast rights, fans should be able to expect the best coverage, on and off the court.
During the first five minutes of the game last night, the commentators referred to Virginia Tech as the Cavaliers. That’s like calling the Denver Broncos the Denver Raiders, or the Boston Red Sox the Boston Yankees; it’s unacceptable. Click here to watch and listen for yourself.
I was hoping that I could escape the Raycom broadcast for today’s games, but halfway through the second half of the Boston College – UNC game, the ESPN feed abruptly ended and I was blacked out. So, I had to switch over to the Raycom feed … ugh.
