According to this morning’s Roanoke Times, the March 18 exhibition baseball game between the New York Yankees and the Virginia Tech Hokies will likely be televised across the Commonwealth, and because the game falls on Tuesday, there is a good chance that local stations will be allowed to rebroadcast the game in the evening. Read the entire RT article.
ISP Sports, which own the media rights to all Tech sporting events, is contacting its radio and TV affiliates to see if they would be interested in broadcasting the game. Are you kidding? What radio or TV station is going to say no to this once in a lifetime opportunity? This should be a no-brainer. The affiliates should be calling ISP begging for this game.
People … it’s the New York Yankees! When have the Yankees ever played a game in Blacksburg, Virginia? Uh, how about NEVER! And when do you think they will come back to play in Blacksburg against a college team? Hmmmm, I wouldn’t say never, but I don’t think it’ll be any time soon. The media coverage for this game will be Super Bowl-esque and ironically, I will be in New York City the day of this game, but I will definitely set my DVR to record it.
For those that do not know, or may have forgotten, following the April 16 shootings at Virginia Tech, the Yankees pledged to donate $1 million to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund and committed to playing an exhibition game in Blacksburg against the Virginia Tech baseball team. That’s freakin’ sweet.
Unfortunately, there are only about 5,000 seats for the game, so students, faculty and family members of the victims will be able to get tickets, hence the big push to get the game televised. Seriously, this is a once in a life time deal and I look forward to witnessing it … on television.
