Well, I shouldn’t be surprised, but my wife … wait for it … was right. The New York Giants, did indeed win Super Bowl XLII. We were stressing this entire game and with each minute the Giants hung around, we were glued to the television. It got so intense at one point, my wife, who generally doesn’t get riled up during a game, actually let fly an expletive. I, having been known to be quite animated myself, was actually rather impressed.
But, back to the game and why New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick is such a complete jerk and sore loser. On 4th and 20 with :10 seconds to play in the game, the Giants leading 17-14, Tom Brady threw an incomplete pass that gave the ball back to the Giants with just :01 left. Now, as much as it pained the Patriots to have to play the final :01 second, Belichick jogged to the middle of field, dismissed the head referee Mike Carey, who was apparently trying to tell the coach that he still had to play the final second, then briefly shook Tom Coughlin’s hand and immediately ran off the field. Coughlin was left looking a bit confused because the game was not officially over.
The officials managed to get the fans, press and players off the field long enough for the Giants to take one snap and officially secure a place in Super Bowl history as one of the greatest upsets ever. Sweet! But, Belichick did not stay on the sideline to coach his team – he was on his way to the locker room. Just another reason why I am so glad that Belichick and the Patriots did not make history – their coach is a proven cheater, a classless jerk and a sore loser.
The Patriots crushed opponents for much of the season, but not once in thost 18 wins did Belichick tell the losing coach to forget the last few seconds or minutes and just head on home. Not once did the opposing coach try to leave the field early. Only Belichick pulled such a classless jerk move.
Speaking of which, I was extremely disappointed that Joe Buck, the Fox play-by-play man, did not take Belichick to task for leaving the field before the game was over as he did with Randy Moss three years ago when Moss, still with the Vikings, left the field before the game was over. The Vikings lost to the Redskins, but Moss left the field early and Buck killed him for it. Why didn’t he give Belichick the same treatment?
I’m not alone in my criticism of Belichick’s lack of sportsmanship, either.

My wife’s comments on the game:
“WOOHOO! GO Giants! Eli is the best! Maybe now he will get the credit he deserves and shut up all those who sing the praises of pretty-boy Brady….he can suck it….along with Belichick! The Pats needed to be knocked down a few notches…they got what they deserved!”
